Vital Records

Certified Copies

NH vital records are considered to be private and access to them is restricted to those individuals with a "direct and tangible interest" in a record in accordance with NH State law. To obtain a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage, you must provide the following information in writing:

• Name at Birth / Name at Death
• Date of Birth / Date of Death
• Place of Birth / Place of Death
• Mother’s Maiden Name
• Father’s Name
• Purpose for the Certificate
• Relationship to the Requested Person

Applicable Fees

New Hampshire law requires that a nonrefundable search fee of $15.00 be collected for each record requested. This search fee also covers the certified record cost for the first certified copy. Additional certified copies of the same record, ordered at the same time, are available for $10.00 each. Please make checks payable to the "Town of Francestown". You can mail your request to Town Clerk, PO Box 67, Francestown, NH 03043.

Exempt Records

Birth records prior to 1901 are exempt from access restrictions. Death and marriage records prior to 1948 are also exempt. You can access these records through the Town Clerk where the original license was obtained or through the Bureau of Vital Records Genealogy Center at 71 South Fruit Street, Concord, NH.
