Cemetery Commission
Town of Francestown, New Hampshire Minutes – April 9, 2024

Members present: Ethel Mac Stubbs, Jan Hicks Alternates present: Meg Hardwick, Polly Freese (Voting) Absent: Bridget Howell
Meeting called to order at 9:35 a.m. Old business:
  • Ethel reported on progress in the proposal to replace shed in Cemetery No. 3:
    • Ethel presented her line drawing of the proposed shed and its dimensions based upon previous discussions. All agreed that the drawing accurately represents previous agreements.
    • It was agreed that Ethel will contact The Carriage Shed (VT) and request a rendering of a shed that meets our requirements, including an estimate of all costs. The original cost estimate was approximately $8,000 which includes the shed, delivery and placement on the site. Once the drawing is received, the Board will pursue letting the project out for other bids.
    • Ethel will also conduct a test on the exterior of the old shed to determine whether lead paint is present. John Kendall (Town Building Inspector) advised her of the process.
  • Meghan reported on progress in locating a company to prepare the ground for the base for the new shed:
    • She contacted Francestown Sand & Gravel. They are willing to meet at the cemetery with Trustees to review the scope of the project and to provide an estimate for the work.
    • She had attempted to find another company for the same purpose for comparison of costs but was unable to find anyone with availability.
    • Meghan will contact FS&G to schedule a meet-up at the cemetery.
  • Also discussed was the subject of tree trimming to accommodate the delivery and placement of a new shed. Polly pointed out that there appears to be quite a bit of tree trimming to be done in several places within the cemetery. Ethel will call both Andy Grant and Bryant Landscaping to determine the next course of action.

New Business:
  • Polly raised the question of when the cemetery should be opened for the spring/summer/fall seasons. It was decided that opening could not occur until the ground is a bit drier.

  • Motion: Jan Hicks moves and Polly seconds motion to enter into non-public session pursuant to RSA 91-A:3, II(e) at 10:15 a.m. p.m. Polly: Aye; Ethel; Aye, Jan; Aye. Motion passes.
  • Motion: Ethel Mac Stubbs moves Polly seconds motion to exit the non-public session at 10:35 a.m. Motion passes unanimously.

Next meeting of Trustees: Monday, May 14. Map update session Wednesday, April 16. Meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
