BioBlitz at the Rand Brook Forest

“Bio” means life, and “Blitz” means “to do something quickly and intensively”
Bio Blitz

Are you curious about the different plants, wildlife, insects, and other species that live around you? Come join the Conservation Commission and Recreation Commission at 9 AM on Saturday, May 11, for our first ever BioBlitz in the Rand Brook Forest. This program is suitable for anyone and everyone who enjoys exploring a forest.

On May 11, from 9 AM to noon, you can learn about all the species that live in the Rand Brook Forest. A BioBlitz is a nature scavenger hunt. You will be exploring, with the help of field expert Rosemary Conroy, to find as many different birds and other wildlife, insects, fungi, plants and other species as possible, all within three hours. Rosemary will lead the group to discover and map the wonders of nature. Using iNaturalist (a free mobile device app) and expert advice, you will identify as many species as possible. In the process, you’ll also be gathering data to help the Francestown Land Trust learn more about its Rand Brook Forest.

No experience necessary! This event is great for both families and individuals who simply want to enjoy some time with fellow nature lovers in town. Children are welcome with adult supervision. In fact, we hope to draw as many children as possible for this nature-loving, educational and fun program. It is free and you do not need to sign up in advance. It will be held rain or shine. Bring your own water and snacks. No dogs, please.

Rand Brook Forest trailhead is at the end of Old County Road South. If the parking lot is full, there is plenty of additional parking along the sides of the road.
