Cemetery Commission of Francestown Minutes of Meeting of July 21, 2023
 
Present: Polly Freese, Ethel MacStubbs, Bridget Howell, Trustees Meghan Hardwick, Janet Taft, Alternates
Jamie Pike, Town Administrator Meeting called to order at 10:10 am.
 
Motion by Ethel to go into a non-public session pursuant to RSA 91-A:3, II (e) (pending claims or litigation threatened in writing) at 10:15 a.m. Motion seconded and passes.
Motion made by Bridget Howell to exit nonpublic session at 11:25 a.m. Motion passed.
New Business
(Present, all trustees and one alternate, Meghan Hardwick).
  • Rules of Cemetery Commission – Bridget suggests language with respect to Artificial Flowers (using phrase “for the safety of maintenance personnel”). Commission members agree to that language. However, Trustees decide to defer making final changes to that rule and posting until we have time to discuss more extensive changes to Rules.
  • RE: Form of Deed and adding language regarding right to inter. Decided to defer discussion to subsequent meeting.
  • The site for remains for Curtis Prest (cremains) were staked out (Lot 239A). Loring Prest is our contact. Burial Saturday, July 22, 2023. Digging own hole, sexton will bill family for probing. Ethel will give Bridget birth and death dates for records.
  • Lot to left (North) of that was probed and no one buried there. Name on file is Mrs. LeBonte (no first name). Bridget will look in town history and prepare notice to reclaim under appropriate RSA for publication in paper.
  • Services for Leavitts will be August 26, 2023.
  • Ethel says Ben Haubrich says he will lead us on walk property on West side of road across from Cemetery (Annex) whenever we like. Bridget will compile, with Ethel, list of names of those showing interest in green cemetery.
  • Lee Webster emailed Bridget- Lee will forward to Bridget names of people who have developed green cemeteries. Bridget to follow up.
  • Probing. Bridget will try to find name of company using sonar and report back to Trustees on pricing. She will reach on to NHCA members.
  • Meg suggests we create list of ongoing issues needed attention. Trustees agree that Bridget will create “rolling” list of action items to present at each meeting. E.g. new sheds, updating paper maps, updating rules, continued exploration of green burial.
  • On July 15, Ethel met with Garlick family of Russell station road. They are purchasing 2 lots : South End, Row C1, lots 3 and 4.
  • Action items: Grave cleaning ladies want to do workshop.
